Service station to close
16:14, 25 January 2011
A petrol-filling station in Dover is due to close next week, despite a campaign by staff and customers to save it.
The Esso Buckland Mill service station, on Crabble Hill, will close on Tuesday.
News that it was under threat was first revealed by the Mercury in November.
Customers were quick to sign a petition to try to get the owners, the American corporation ExxonMobil, to change their mind.
But the company said the station was no longer financially viable as it would cost too much to upgrade the fuel tanks at the site.
The nearest Esso petrol station will be at Dover Road, Walmer.
