A smash on main route is causing delays and heavy traffic in both directions.

The accident happened earlier this afternoon in Dover Road, Deal, just after 2pm, prompting an emergency service response.

Pictures of the aftermath show a black car blocking the road having collided with a parked people carrier on the roadside.

A spokesperson for police said officers were called to a report of a collision involving a car and a van at 2.21pm.

They attended the scene in Dover Road where the vehicles were recovered and the road reopened around an hour later.
