The family of Liam Evans are asking people to wear football or boxing shirts to his funeral, if they wish.

The 14-year-old from Deal was found unconscious in his bedroom on Wednesday, December 11 and died in hospital the next day.

His funeral will be held at Barham Crematorium at 4pm on Wednesday, January 15, with a gathering at Deal Welfare Club in Cowdray Square afterwards.

His parents Mark and Tiffany are inviting people to wear Tottenham Hotspur football shirts or t-shirts from the two boxing clubs he was associated with, Sandwich Amateur Boxing Club or KMD Boxing Club in Dover, if they so wish.

The youngster dubbed 'Sandwich's little Rocky' by his fellow athletes had waited until he was 10 years old - the minimum age - to join Sandwich Amateur Boxing Club and loved being in the ring.

He had earned himself an impressive medal and trophy collection having competed in 13 bouts, winning two, and was also named Kent Schoolboy Championship runner-up in April.

Sandwich Amateur Boxing Club has said Liam was the "heart and soul" of the club and is already making plans for ways in which to keep his memory alive.

His parents described him as a "too good to be true" son and the "best brother" to his five siblings; Ellouise, 15, Gracie, 12, Robbie-Paul, 10, and four-year-old twins Teddy and Frankie.

Simon Smith, principle at his school, Goodwin Academy also paid tribute describing Liam as "a wonderful boy, who was hugely popular and extremely talented."
