Karen Stupples' hopes of making her second appearance in golf's Solheim Cup disappeared with a poor performance in the Ricoh British Women's Open.

The 36-year-old Deal professional, who was in the European team which lost to the USA in the Solheim Cup four years ago, hoped to win a wild card for this month's match in Illinois by playing well at Royal Lytham last week.

But Stupples (pictured), who has struggled to rediscover her best form after having an appendix operation in April, had a nightmare opening round 82 in difficult windy conditions on Thursday, and she then followed that with a second-round 77 for a total of 159 which meant she missed the weekend cut by six shots.

Following the end of the British Open, which was won by Scotland's Catriona Matthew, Europe captain Alison Nicholas announced that her three wild cards for the Solheim Cup would be Scotland's Janice Moodie, Becky Brewerton of Wales and Swede Anna Nordqvist.

Stupples meanwhile, will be hoping to play herself back into better form in the Wales Ladies Championship of Europe, which starts at Royal St David's on Thursday.
