Previously charges only applied to the three lots Monday to Saturday, but as of October 4, motorists now have to pay on Sundays too, between 9am to 6pm.

It will cost £1 per hour or £6 per day at Union Road, and £1.30 per hour at West Street ad Shanhope Road car parks.

It comes as part of a string of changes being made by Dover District Council to car parks across the district.

The authority has also reduced the maximum stay period at the Middle Street Car Park in Deal, from four hours to three hours.

The council is also scrapping cash payments at the Borrow Pit Car Park in Walmer.

Prices for this car park are 90p per hour for cars, and £1.60 for cars with trailers and motorhomes. Charges only apply March 1 to October 31 at this car park.

Finally, two electric vehicle charging points are being introduced in Beach Street Car Park in Deal.

Tenterden residents recently hit out at Ashford Borough Council over plans to introduce cashless parking, with fears it would drive visitors away from the town.
