A young man has died after being hit by a car as he walked along the A2 near Dover in the early hours of this morning.
Emergency services were called to the coast-bound carriageway near Whitfield at 1.30am. It happened near where a footpath crosses the busy road, connecting Whitfield with Temple Ewell.
The 20-year-old pedestrian, who had been hit by a silver Mercedes A series car, was declared dead at the scene. His next of kin have been told.
The A2 from Dover towards Canterbury was closed between the Whitfield roundabout and the A260 at Barham while investigators gather evidence.
DS Scott Lynch, from Kent Police, said: "The young man was wearing a pale blue shirt and black trousers.
"I believe he walked down Singledge Lane prior to the incident and would appeal to anybody with information to come forward."
Officers from the Kent Police Serious Investigation Collision Unit are appealing for anyone who saw the pedestrian in the area before the collision to phone on 01622 798538.
