The countdown begins ... Dover's Big Screen will come down next month
12:00, 09 October 2013
Dover’s Big Screen will be dismantled next month.
The screen, in the Market Square, was provided free by the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games which has since gone into liquidation.
The cost of maintaining it was likely to be prohibitive so district councillors decided to get rid of it “at the earliest opportunity” and to sell it if possible.
Now it has been revealed that the screen will be taken down during the second week of November. An area around it will be cordoned off while the work is in progress.
One report suggests that the screen’s removal would cost around £20,000.
