REVIEW: The Beast lives up to its tagline as the ultimate bouncy castle experience

10:45, 30 May 2017

You’d think its name would be all the warning I needed before taking on The Beast at Betteshanger at the weekend.

But for my friends and I, who took on the 272m long inflatable course on Sunday morning, we really hadn’t anticipated the challenge ahead of us.

Complete with 32 obstacles including inflatable walls, balls and rings, the bouncy course certainly lived up to its tag line as the ultimate bouncy castle experience.

But a level of fitness was definitely required as well as an ice cold drink at the end.

As a group of 16 who had hastily booked tickets to try it out, we’d decided to work in pairs and wear team colours, adding a little competition to the day.

At the starting line we were raring to go – wanting to win whatever the price.

But three obstacles in, the competition was over and it was a game of camaraderie, as we helped each other to climb over the high walls and offered words of encouragement.

The youngest among us and the only child, eight-year old Joseph Maskrey, led the way, giving us no excuse to give up.

Squeezing through the rings and clambering over the walls gave us plenty to talk about at the end, as well as a few friction burns. My tip would be to wear a long sleeved top and trousers.

Thankfully the obstacles towards the end were slightly less challenging, all except the one real life obstacle - a man dressed in squishy spikes whose aim was to not let you past.

Having conquered our way past him, the sight of the black and white finishing flag and a big yellow slide was a welcome one.

It left us plenty of time to go around again, but sadly we just didn’t have it in us.

It was a fabulous fifteen minutes of fun topped off by the chance to pose for pictures (and chill) on a big green inflatable sofa.

For participants and spectators there was also the chance to sit back, relax in the park and enjoy food and drink from local suppliers – including some delicious homemade sausage roles.

From the many smiling faces I saw, I know the The Beast’s UK debut at Betteshanger was met with glee by children and adults alike.

Given the chance to do it again – now I’ve caught my breath - I wouldn’t hesitate.

Although personally a couple of extra gym sessions in preparation would be needed.

Betteshanger Park has confirmed that parking fees did apply throughout the weekend. To avoid fines, people can still pay online at www.parkwithease.co.uk

The Beast is now heading to Belgium and later in the summer it will be in Denmark and Dubai.
