An obstacle course challenge is taking place to raise money for Theo’s Mission to Walk.

It is for five-year-old Theo Knott, from Deal, who has cerebral palsy and is the subject of a £50,000 fundraising campaign.

Theo’s Combat Challenge takes place at Betteshanger Park in Sandwich Road, Deal, on Sunday, April 30, from 10am.

It is being held in association with MY/PT, whose owner Jay Ingram runs regular fitness training programmes there.

Teams of five will compete against each other over an obstacle course.

Organisers will then put the teams into three groups where they will battle it out against each other until there are winners in each group. Winners are judged by fastest times.

There will also be a mini-obstacle course to keep children entertained.

Theo was born nine weeks premature and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when he was three.

It affects his legs and one arm, plus his balance and vision.

Great Ormond Street Hospital has accepted that Theo can have specialist surgery, Dorsal Rhizotomy, but the NHS is unable to fund the surgery or follow-up rehabilitation.

After the operation Theo needs intense daily physiotherapy for at least 12 months, plus specialist equipment.

Other therapy would include horse riding and hydrotherapy.

All this is designed to help Theo walk independently.

At the moment he can’t walk without a frame and has to stop when it becomes too painful.

He has to otherwise use a wheelchair.

MY/PT set up obstacle fitness courses at Betteshanger Park in January.

There are sessions for military fitness, corporate team building days, children’s birthday parties and hen nights.

The courses involved personal training and obstacle course races.
