The grieving mother of cyclist Daniel Squire has promised his death will not be in vain – and is a step closer to getting the backing of Olympian Sir Chris Hoy for her safety campaign.

Tracy Squire, of Reach Close, St Margaret’s, said she wrote to the six-times Olympic champion last week “in desperation” for endorsement of her Respect for Cyclists campaign.

Soon after she heard back from his secretary with a promise that she would talk to him.

In an emotional interview for kmfm Mrs Squire said: “Daniel’s death has completely finished myself and his dad.

“We are doing this to survive. We can’t let his death be in vain.

“It would have a massive impact to get Chris Hoy involved. I won’t stop until something has been done.”

Triathlon group Deal Tri has backed the move, and MP Charlie Elphicke wants answers from police on whether the crash on Saturday, September 7, was an issue with the A258 Dover to Deal road.
