A community centre boss is offering her group's premises for Covid vaccinations.

Gill Walshe spoke out after complaints that the Dover district only has one site for jabs for the public.

Mrs Walshe, chairman of the North Deal Community Company, has told health bosses they can use the group's Golf Road Centre.

She told Kent Online: : "I have been in touch with the Kent and Medway CCG (Clinical Commissioning Group) and the local doctor's surgeries to suggest that the Golf Road Centre could be used as a vaccination centre for North Deal.

"There would be no hire cost for the use of the space only a request for a payment against heating and cleaning costs.

"I have just been on a cross-district community centre forum with Dover District Council.

" There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes to increase the number of sites across the district. I am hoping that The Golf Road Centre will be one of them."

She is still waiting to hear from the CCG.

The district's only vaccination centre for the public so far is Dover Health Centre in Maison Dieu Road, which is expected to start giving jabs tomorrow (Friday).

Vaccinations at Aylesham Health Centre are for health and care staff only.

Patients at Ash Surgery can get their jabs 9.5 miles away at Minster Surgery in Thanet.

A petition for a vaccination centre in Deal was set up last Sunday by town councillor Susan Carlyle and voluntary worker Terry Bishop.

By today (Thursday) 838 people signed with the target now up to 1,000.

NHS Kent and Medway this week said that the vaccination service for more than 90% of its 200 GP practices was now confirmed.

It said people would be updated if more locations were added.

Yesterday (Wednesday) hospitals in Kent reported 95 Covid-19 deaths - setting another new record high for the pandemic.

A total 12 of those died in the East Kent Hospitals Trust area.

Now, since New Year's Day, 738 people in the county have died within 28 days of testing positive for coronavirus.

Yesterday, the UK recorded its highest daily Covid death toll, with 1,564 fatalities within 28 days of a positive test.

A total 84,767 have died from the illness in the UK since the first death on March 5 last year.
