Bill Shaw's wife Liz
Shaw and daughter Lisa Luckyn-Malone talk about his release from
prison

A former Army officer, whose daughter lives in Dover, has
said he is “very excited” after winning his appeal against a
conviction for bribery in Afghanistan.

Bill Shaw, 52, always maintained that he was only paying a
legitimate fine for the release of two vehicles for the security
company for which he worked.

But he was arrested, charged with bribing officials, jailed
by an anti-corruption court for two years and fined £16,185.

Mr Shaw had served in the British Army for 28 years and was
awarded the MBE for his service.

After being cleared, he said he
was very excited and described his time in prison as “a living
hell”.

Mr Shaw's daughter
Lisa Luckyn-Malone, from Dover, said her father deserved to be
released and the family were "over the moon".

She said the family had always
believed he was innocent, and she thanked all those who had
supported them, A Facebook campaign had attracted thousands of
signatures from all over the world. A petition had also been
delivered to Downing Street.

A Foreign Office spokeswoman
welcomed the appeal court's decision which, she said, was subject
to finalisation in the Supreme Court.
