RNLI volunteers travel
from Margate to Hastings without leaving Dover

Members of Dover Lifeboat crew, together with
some of their supporters, ran, cycled and rowed their way from
Margate to Hastings, without leaving Dover town centre.

They were taking part in the triathlon, using
running, cycling and rowing machines, to raise money for the RNLI
as part of the charity’s SOS appeal.

They decided to try and cover the equivalent
distance from one end of the Confederation of the Cinque Ports to
the other, and managed to complete it within just a few hours.

So they kept going to see how far they could
make it on the “return journey”.

Lifeboat Coxswain Stuart Richardson was full of
praise for the efforts of his crew.

They were joined by BBC Radio Kent presenter
John Warnett, who had been invited to take part by Dover
lifeboatman Steve Ladner, who presents the early riser show on the
radio station.

The RNLI’s Support our Sports appeal is the charity’s biggest
fundraising campaign and is the time when the RNLI sends its own
mayday call for the public help and support.
