KCC issue warning about cold callers falsely claiming to offer council tax rebate

12:00, 16 August 2015

A warning about cold callers falsely claiming to offer a council tax rebate has been issued Kent County Council Trading Standards.

The council is also concerned and aware that letters are being sent to consumers demanding payment.

A spokesman said: “Please be aware that these companies are not associated with any district council or Kent County Council and as a result your council tax rebate will NOT be reduced.”

In a bid to stop the scammers, KCC advises people never to give their personal details or card details to unknown callers, to take details of the company and find their number from the internet or phone book and if people have any doubts about the caller, they should hang up.

If you receive a letter, you are advised to put it in the recycling bin and contact your local district council for information about your council tax.

For advice and to report issues to KCC Trading Standards contact Citizens Advice consumer service on 03454 040506, Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.
