Easter is a time when excitement is high. School is out and with sweet and chocolaty treats a plenty, parents need to find things to do to burn off that surplus Easter egg energy. Here's our guide to what's on this weekend.

• From Good Friday to Easter Sunday (inclusive): The National Trust's archaeological trail will be held along the White Cliffs of Dover. Follow the Easter Bunny and hop over to South Foreland Lighthouse any time between 11am and 3pm. Park at the White Cliffs Visitor Centre. £3.00 per trail sheet, no admission necessary.

• Dover Castle will host a festival each day from Good Friday to Easter Monday (10am until 5pm) with a host of activities on offer for children and families: Crafty kids can have a go at making a model out of Play-Doh, inspired by the castle. Each day at 2pm a prize will be awarded to the best creation, with the winner receiving £50 worth of Play-Doh and £50 worth of goodies from the Dover Castle shop. There will also be clowning around displays from popular fool Peterkin. Children can also try their hand at have-a-go-archery with music from the merry minstrels. This packed day of historic adventure for festival goers, young and old, costs £18 for adults and £11.80 for children.

• Caring for the countryside is a scrub clearance day at Samphire Hoe on Good Friday from 10am. The day will give adults and older children the chanceto find out what volunteering is all about. The work could include path clearing, scrub clearing, other vegetation management or working on the livestock fencing.

• A Hot Cross Bunny bike ride will be held at Betteshanger Country Park in Sholden on Saturday from 10am.It costs £3 per rider. Booking is not required. There will be a chance to test your skills daily with the bunny hop contest, egg and spoon race and egg rolling, all starting from the race area at 30-minute intervals over the weekend; or get creative with Easter craft activities in the visitor centre. The country park is offering an “Easter egg-stravaganza” pass, for just £7 per person, which permits you to take part in all Easter activities and save money.

• Marks and Spencer in Dover's Biggin Street, is holding an Easter egg hunt on Saturday, March 26. Collect an answer sheet and find the ten bunnies - all entries will be put into a prize draw.

• An egg hunt takes place in the grounds of Kingsdown and Ringwould school in Glen Road, Kingsdown, on Saturday from 2pm. Proceeds go to Kingsdown pre-school, the organiser of the event.

• On Easter Sunday, East Kent Railway is offering tickets for just £1 each. Join the heritage trains at Shepherdswell train station, and enjoy the four mile round trip. Stop off for a cup of tea and slice of cake at Eythorne Halt, before embarking on the journey home. The railway is run by volunteers after reopening in the 1990s. It had previously transported coal, dug from Kent's mines, across east Kent.

• Samphire Hoe is the place to be on Bank Holiday Monday, where the activities include the easter Eggstravaganza from 10am and 2pm. Come along in the morning or afternoon for two hours of geocaching, Easter adventures and fire skills up at High Meadow. Please wear sturdy shoes and warm clothes.
