The search is on to find a Dover carnival queen from 50 years ago.

The appeal is being made in connection with Dover Film Festival, due to be held at the town hall next month, at which the 1961 Dover film will be screened.

Among those featured in the film - compiled by former Dover film-maker and photographer Ray Warner - is Gwen Wakefield, who was Miss Dover 1961.

“We would like to know whether Gwen is still around in this area, or anywhere else, so we can invite her to be our special guest at the film festival,” said organiser Mike McFarnell who now makes a video record of life in the town each year.

The festival will take place on Monday and Tuesday, March 5 and 6, with screenings at 3pm and 7.30pm.

Tickets, which are £3.50 for adults, £3 for senior citizens and £2 for children, are available from the Visitor Information Centre next to Dover Town Hall.

As well as the 1961 film, Mr McFarnell’s Dover 2011 film will be shown. The festival also includes a screening of Watermark, the film about life at Buckland Paper Mill, there will be exhibits, displays and a short film competition.
