DoverAthletic boss Andy Hessenthaler has admitted he faces a difficult juggling act in the final league games of the season.

Hessenthaler wants to give key members of his Dover squad a breather ahead of the Blue Square South play-offs but also has his sights set on second place.

“We’ve got to be careful with the squad as there are people carrying knocks and there are good players sitting on the bench,” said Hessenthaler, ahead of Saturday’s match at home to Weymouth.

Finishing as runners-up would give Dover home advantage in the second leg of the play-off semi-final as well as the one-off final, which is due to be played on Thursday, May 6.

Whites extended their winning run to seven matches with victories over Eastleigh and Welling during the Easter programme and reflecting on their continued progress, Hessenthaler added: “Credit to the boys because the amount of games we’ve had to play in the last week or so has been tough on them.

“We went to Hampton and won on a tough pitch, beat Eastleigh and then Welling – so we have managed to keep that momentum going.”

Whites have now won their last seven games, and are two points clear of Chelmsford in second place, having played a game more.

Frannie Collin and Sammy Moore (hamstring) are unlikely to feature against Weymouth but could return for the trip to Newport the following weekend.
