Toby Trice has added two more wins to his name in the Ginetta GT Academy during the Donington Park weekend.

Even a spectacular race-three spin off track couldn’t stop the Deal racer from picking up further points to extend his lead at the top of the leaderboard.

Brimming with confidence after winning all three races at the season opener, Trice was back out again for the second round, once again impressing a growing army of fans.

Trice took two wins before being nudged off in the final race but he still managed sixth overall and second in class.

“What a weekend it’s been,” he said. “So many racing fans turned out for the next instalment of the Ginetta GT Academy. For me personally, it was an incredible honour to have so many of my supporters, sponsors, friends and family there to enjoy yet another incredible weekend.”

Having secured pole position with a dominant qualifying session, Trice then led from lights to flag in both of the first two races.

“Race two was, for me, a perfect race,” he commented.

“A fantastic launch off the line allowed me to test the car’s performance at the front of the field, extending my gap and finishing the race with a four-second lead. That consistency and professionalism is what I want to replicate over the season.”

Trice admitted his start in race three had been “dreadful” and meant he had to fight his way back into contention but said: “I was actually enjoying myself again, and feeling pretty confident that I could battle for an overtake, hold the front and take the race win.”

Unfortunately he got a contact-tap and span off track from third place, eventually rejoining in ninth. Trice continued to battle and made one outside move doing 110mph, to the delight of those watching. He eventually finished in the points.

Trice had impressed again and was delighted with the backing around the track, saying: “Everyone was out in force on the weekend and really, you couldn’t miss us! It was fantastic to meet some new fans for the first time too, and enjoy the race weekend with them. For me this sport is inclusive for all and it’s why that race-weekend-feeling is one I love to share.”

Round three is at Snetterton in August.
