Dover Athletic’s early season lack of firepower continued with Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Farnborough.

Chris Kinnear’s side have scored just four times in their opening six Skrill South matches, although they did have two “goals” ruled out for offside at Farnborough.

Elliott Charles, recalled to the side in place of Nathan Elder, saw his 29th-minute effort chalked off by the linesman’s flag minutes and Terrell Forbes had a second-half header ruled out for the same reason.

Farnborough, playing their first league match of the season after finally sorting out their late registration with the league, gradually blew away the cobwebs and were awarded a penalty on 70 minutes when Michael Kamara clipped Dave Tarpey’s heels in the box.

Kamara was shown a straight red card but Tarpey saw his spot kick superbly tipped away by Mitch Walker - the Dover keeper’s second penalty save in successive matches.

But Tarpey had the last laugh when, 11 minutes from time, he swept home a cross from Merrick James-Lewis.

Whites then threw men forward in a frantic attempt to salvage something from the game but to no avail.
