Funds will be raised in memory of a former Deal Tri member at this Sunday’s Deal Half-Marathon.

Dave Scoggins died last year from pancreatic cancer and the race will help provide support to those with similar conditions through Pancreatic Cancer Action.

Approximately 400 runners are expected. The route starts from Deal’s Betteshanger Road at 10.30am and takes in Northbourne, Ripple, Sutton, East Langdon and Martin Mill.

Organiser Jill Cliff said: “We are raising money in memory of former Deal Tri member Dave Scoggins.

“Dean and Katie Scoggins are running the London Marathon in their father’s memory and the money we raise at the Deal Half-Marathon will help towards their fundraising goals.”

Among the raffle prizes are four boxseat tickets to see George Ezra at the 02 Arena on March 13. Deal Tri will be donating £2 for every entrant to get a free raffle ticket and further tickets can be purchased on race day for that same price.

First male and female on Sunday will win £50. There will be Podplus vouchers for second and third place as well as age-group winners.

Team winners will receive a Podplus goody bag and free entry for the 2024 race.

There will also be a junior 1,500m race, entry £4, for those between eight and 16 which starts at 10.45am.

Race headquarters are at Betteshanger Country Park, where there is ample parking.

On-the-day entry is £25.
