The organisers of this month’s 118th Amateur Championship at Royal Cinque Ports and Prince’s Golf Clubs, are confident it will feature one of the strongest fields in the event’s long history.
The starting line-up for the championship, which takes place over the two East Kent courses from June 17-22, will be made up entirely of world-ranked amateur golfers from more than 30 countries.
The R&A’s director of amateur events, Euan Mordaunt said: “This must be one of the strongest Amateur Championship fields ever assembled.
“Spectators supporting the championship will have the opportunity to witness some great golf from many talented players who may go on to become top professionals of the future.”
The winner of the 36-hole final at Royal Cinque Ports on June 22 will earn a place in this year’s Open Championship at Muirfield and also an invitation to next year’s US Masters and US Open.
The strokeplay qualifying stage of the Amateur Championship will be played over the first two days at both Royal Cinque Ports and Prince’s before the field is cut to 64, for the matchplay stage over the final four days play at Royal Cinque Ports. Admission and parking is free all week.
