In the first case, at around 8am, a Border Force cutter intercepted a RHIB (rigid-hulled inflatable boat) with eight men who presented themselves as Iranian.

At around 9am a Border Force coastal patrol vessel stopped a boat with five men.

Four said they were Iranian and one said he was Albanian.

All 13 were taken to Dover where they were medically assessed before being interviewed by immigration officials.

A Home Office spokesman said: "One of the individuals from the second boat was found to be a minor and will be transferred into the care of social services."

Throughout the last year there have been attempts by migrants to reach the UK by small craft.

There have also been incidents on or off the coast of Deal, Folkestone, Hythe, Romney Marsh, and Thanet.
