A woman with cancer - who also lost her husband to the disease - has rallied 25 people to have their heads shaved for charity.

Stagecoach bus driver Andrea Hayes, 50, was diagnosed with breast cancer in September last year.

She had a tumour and lymph nodes removed in December and is starting chemotherapy this month.

Sadly, Andrea's husband Philip, died from prostate cancer in November 2020.

Andrea said: "I found the lump just eight months after losing my husband."

Andrea, from Dover, and Philip met in 1998 when they were both working at Stagecoach and have two children, Keshena, 20, and Kaelan, 15.

Andrea's colleagues are supporting her in raising money for Breast Cancer Now, with nine colleagues from the Dover bus station volunteering to brave the shave.

Friends and family have also signed up, including daughter Keshena.

Andrea said: "Being as I'm going to lose my hair anyway, I decided to organise a group head shave because I wanted to focus on something good under such difficult circumstances.

"As a result, so far 25 other people have agreed to raise funds with me.

"Although some people might not be able to make it, so it might be around 20 on the day."

The group head shave will be held on February 26 at Pencester bus station in Dover from 1pm.

As well as the shave, a cake sale is being organised, with Andrea hoping for as many people to stop by on the day.

Dan Mayhew, operations manager at Stagecoach Dover Depot said "We're super proud of Andrea and the way the team has come together to support Breast Cancer Now and the incredible work they do.

"Andrea's personal experience and her determination to create something positive from it, is hugely inspirational.

"The shave will be a powerful demonstration of her strength and our solidarity."

Mr Mayhew, who is among those to have his head shaved, added: "It's going to be really fun to see how colleagues look with their egg heads!"

More than £3,000 has been raised so far.
