A section of the A2 was closed near Dover after a crash between a lorry and a car caused 400 litres of fuel to spill across the carriageway.
The coast bound carriageway was shut between the Whitfield Roundabout and the junction with the A258.
Traffic officers were called to the scene and the road was closed for several hours.
Traffic was diverted with drivers heading for Dover being advised to exit the A2 at Whitfield and take the 4th exit at the roundabout to travel south on the A256 at Whitfield Hill. At the roundabout with the A256 London Road they were taking the first exit before turning left at the A20 junction and travelling east to Dover.
Those travelling from further were told to use the M20 and A20.
Police have confirmed no one has been hurt in the incident.
Highways England tweeted to say the spillage had been cleared up and the road was open again at around 3am.
