Four charities in Dover and Sandwich have received more than £1,000 from the Kent Police property fund.

This comes from the sale of auctioned items which have been seized during police operations and unclaimed property.

Twice a year money is distributed to groups that provide a service to the community.

Ch Insp Steve Barlow, the district commander for Dover, said: “It pleases me to be able to contribute to local charities that do so much to provide for some of the most vulnerable.”

SECamb Charitable Trust received £400 which will help to buy equipment for Dover Community First Responders.

These respond to emergency situations when people have suffered a heart attack, stroke or fall.

Police awarded £400 to Stonham Housing for the Dover Young Persons Project in Folkestone Road. This scheme supports young, vulnerable adults who are homeless or at risk of being homeless.

The money will help to give young people valuable skills, such as cookery lessons.

The Phoenix Youth Project in Jubilee Road, Sandwich, has also received £320 which will be put towards cycle security marking and a safety event for teenagers.

A final £340 has gone to Dover Partnership Against Crime. This group manages the shop watch radio systems in Dover, Deal and Sandwich. It promotes business crime prevention and the cash will be spent on upgrading their radios.
