An activist accused of posting a racist clip on YouTube has indicated a not guilty plea.
Alan Leggett, known as ‘Active Patriot’ on social media, appeared at Canterbury Crown Court today via video link.
The 43-year-old stands accused of sending a letter, communication or article conveying an indecent or offensive message with racist or religious aggravation to Amberosine Chetrit at Dover.
The offence, which is alleged to have involved a YouTube video, is said to have taken place in September 2020.
Leggett, of Cleethorpes, indicated his plea through his barrister Thomas Stern.
He was granted conditional bail and is expected to face a two-day trial in December at the same court.
The accused’s bail conditions state he must not contact his victim, post about her, or the case, on social media.
Judge Simon James told Leggett, who wasn’t visible on the live link, a breach of his bail conditions could lead to his arrest.
“As the case is listed for trial, should the defendant fail to attend that hearing, then that would not only be a criminal offence he could be imprisoned - it would not stop the trial continuing in his absence,” the judge added.
Leggett, of Brereton Avenue, has more than 30,000 followers on Twitter.
