A blood clot has been found on the brain of a father-of-four who was seriously injured during a motorbike crash abroad.

Doctors are continuing to asses Kie Mathias every 48 hours to see if it is necessary to operate.

Now the family of Kie, of Lydden near Dover, are still helpless, not knowing to when they can fly him home from Greece.

His brother Dan Mathias told KentOnline: “This is very worrying but we are trying to stay positive.

“We were told about the clot on Friday and since then it has not got any bigger or smaller.

“But at least his heart and breathing are fine. He is still under sedation and we still don’t know when he will be stable enough to be flown home.”

Family and friends are flying back and forth to be with him at his bedside.

Yesterday Dan and his parents Steven and Bernice were there along with family friend Tom Hewer.

Dan and Mr Hewer are due to return to Kent tomorrow and Dan will come back to Greece for at least a week from November 10.

According to the NHS website, blood clots are very serious and need to be treated quickly.

Kie’s motorcycle was in collision with a trolleybus in Athens on October 20, and he suffered head injuries, a broken leg, multiple fractured ribs, and internal bruising.

He has been too unwell all along to tell his family if he has the insurance needed for his medical care and transportation home. To cover that Dan set up a crowdfunding page on October 22, which by this evening has raised £4,283 out of a £50,000 target figure.

Experienced motorcyclist Kie, a plumbing engineer, had used the hired bike on a five-day solo trip when the accident happened. He was due to fly home on October 22.
