A lorry, broken down outside the Dover South Services garage, Limekiln Street, caused a huge backlog of traffic this morning.
Drivers travelling to Dover from via the A20 faced delays of up to 20 minutes.
The HGV, which was stationary, was coned off by the police - causing motorists to filter into one lane.
A Kent Police spokesman said: "Kent Police is aware a lorry has broken down on the A20 and is causing congestion. The driver is waiting for a recovery vehicle."
