Cllr Pam Brivio is set to become the Mayor of Dover, as revealed at a town council meeting on Wednesday.
She will take over from current Mayor, Ronnie Philpott in May.
Cllr Brivio won with 10 votes, and the other nominee, Cllr Chris Precious, received four.
Cllr Sue Jones was also nominated to be deputy Mayor, winning with seven votes and overriding Cllr Stewart Dimmock who got four votes.
There were four abstentions.
Cllr Pam Brivio said: “I’m pleased to have been chosen for this important role in Dover, I feel ready to face the challenge at an exciting time for [the town].
“For example; the plans for the Western Docks by the Dover Harbour Board, more involvement for the community in this project and how the Trust Port will run.
“And hopefully progress on DTIZ.”
Dover and Deal MP, Charlie Elphicke, wished them both the best of luck. He said: "I would like to congratulate Pam and Sue Jones on their election and wish them a successful Mayoral year.
"Ronnie Philpott was an outstanding representative for Dover."
