Council tax bills for 2019/20 have landed on householders' doormats this week.

They show a total increase of 5.5% on last year for average Band D properties.

The total average bill is £1,822.82.

The district council collects the tax but gets just over at 10th of the money.

Kent County Council as usual takes the greatest share of that bill, 71.3% or £1.299.42.

The Kent Police and Crime Commissioner is taking 10.6% (£193.15).

This is almost the same as the tax's collector, Dover District Council, which gets 10.3% or £187.29.

The rest of the share for a Band D bill is for Kent Fire and Rescue Service, getting 4.2% or £77.76 and town and parish councils, which would get 3.6% (£65.20).

DDC leader Keith Morris said: “We are maintaining the delivery of vital council services, and increasing the budget to key areas like tourism.

"This is while keeping the increase in the district council part of the bill to 2.7%, and keeping DDC's Council Tax the lowest in East Kent.”
