Pam Brivio and Geoffrey Lymer among the Kent County Council election candidates in Dover area

Labour wants to keep its hold of the main urban areas of Dover district in next month's election.

The party controls all four seats in the Dover Town and Deal divisions and hopes for more gains.

Meanwhile the Conservatives will want to snatch seats beyond the three they have in the area.

A total 33 candidates are contesting the seven seats in the area's five divisions for the Kent County Council election on May 4.

The rest are from the Green Party, Ukip and the Liberal Democrats and there is one independent.

Six of the previously-elected councillors are standing again.

These are Labour's Pam Brivio, Gordon Cowan, Mike Eddy and Eileen Rowbotham and Tories Steve Manion and Geoffrey Lymer.

The third Conservative, Leyland Ridings, is not standing again and Sue Chandler is instead fighting the Sandwich seat for the party.

Kent County Council continues as a Tory-controlled authority although Ukip became the official opposition in the 2013 election.

Trevor Bond (Con), Will Darlington (Lib Dem), Mike Eddy (Lab), Sylvia Hanael (Ukip), Graham Lane (Ukip), John Londsdale (Grn), Derek Murphy (Con), Eileen Rowbotham (Lab), Christopher Tough (Ind), John Trickey (Lib Dem).

Dover North (one seat)
Nick Fox (Grn), Steve Manion (Con), Tim Turner (Ukip), Charles Woodgate (Lab).

Dover Town (two seats)
Pauline Beresford (Con), Adrian Briggs (Lib Dem), Pam Brivio (Lab), Nigel Collor (Con), Gordon Cowan (Lab), Ben Glayzer (Ukip), Carolyn Hughes (Lib Dem), Georgette Rapley (Ukip), Beccy Sawbridge (Grn).

Dover West (one seat)
Jim Caple (Lib Dem), Sarah Gleave (Grn), Geoffrey Lymer (Con), Peter McDermott (Ukip), Mirian Wood (Lab).

Sandwich (one seat).
Sue Chandler (Con), Lesley Ede (Ukip), David Pestell (Lab), Wendy Scott (Lib Dem), Aidan Shanks (Grn).

Two Dover District Council by-elections will also take place on May 4.

There are three candidates for the Buckland ward, Nathaniel Richards for Labour,

Conservative Callum Warriner and one of the KCC candidates,Tim Turner for Ukip.

Maxton, Elms Vale and Priory has four candidates.

These are Ukip’s Peter McDermott, again a KCC candidate, Labour’s Ann Napier,

Conservative Roger Walkden and independent Graham Wanstall.
