Ferry faller hits second ship

00:00, 29 August 2002

A MAN, thought to be an Algerian, was taken to hospital with serious injuries after falling more than 60 metres from a Dover ferry onto the deck of another craft.

The 22-year-old was seen to fall from the top deck of the SeaFrance ferry Rodin, berthed in Dover's Eastern Docks, at 1am. He landed on the fuel bunkering vessel Whitstar moored next to the ferry.

Police and ambulance crews were called and paramedics were conveyed from the quayside to the deck of the Whitstar in a basket by hydraulic lift. The man was secured to a spinal board and moved back to the quay by the lift.
