Ferry services hit by French fishermen
00:00, 23 December 2004
CROSS-Channel ferry services are being disrupted today by French fishermen.
The action started yesterday when the fishermen blockaded the port of Boulogne, preventing the SpeedFerries fast-ferry catamaran Speed One from entering the port.
There were suggestions that the action might spread to Calais.
Today the fishermen are staging a protest across one of the shipping lanes, causing delays for ferries heading for both Calais and Boulogne. They are protesting about fishing quotas in the North Sea.
There is a report that one French trawler narrowly missed being hit after it darted across in front of a ferry.
