IDEAS are being discussed this week for a new community park and local nature reserve in the St Radigund’s and Tower Hamlets area in Dover.

The park is being proposed by Dover Town Council working with the White Cliffs Countryside Project and the aim is to create a new public space with an area of about 14 hectares (about 35 acres).

The land has been acquired by the Town Council and as most of the site does not have a well established name, new names are being suggested.

Free guided walks are being held this week, and tomorrow (Thursday, August 21) at 7.30pm, there is a public meeting at the King’s Hall, London Road, when there will be a short, illustrated talk about the proposals, together with displays about the wildlife and history of the site.

People will have the chance to ask questions and make suggestions about the future of the Community Park.

“Part of the proposed Community Park is chalk grassland which has been designated a Site of Nature Conservation Interest by the Kent Wildlife Trust, and it is hoped to declare a new Local Nature Reserve,” said Kirk Alexander, WCCP project officer.

“This will help protect the area in the future, as well as attract funding for the management of the area.”
