Halfords has re-opened three of its garages today with comprehensive social distancing measures in place.
As an essential service provider, Halfords Autocentres in Dover, Sidcup and Tonbridge have re-commenced work to assist residents who rely on their cars for essential journeys during the pandemic.
The reopening comes after the government introduced a temporary MOT exemption, but warned that vehicles must still be kept in a roadworthy condition. Drivers caught using an unsafe vehicle could be prosecuted.
The Autocentre has fundamentally changed the way its operating in order to protect staff and customers.
Measures include the introduction of a zero contact policy, no cash payments and using plastic wrap on steering wheels and gear levers.
Only one customer is allowed to enter the reception area at one time and people must stay two metres apart.
Keys must be left on the reception desk to be picked up by a colleague.
And cars will be given at least five minutes of ventilation before being moved into the service area.
Andy Randall, managing director of Halfords Autocentres said: “I am really proud of our colleagues in Dover and how they are supporting us in our commitment to playing our part in keeping the UK moving for their essential journeys.
"However, we will only continue to play our role if we can ensure the health and safety of our colleagues and customers, and compliance with government policy.
"That’s why we have re-shaped how our Autocentre in Dover operates and we look forward to welcoming customers from April 29.”
The Autocentre is open from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and from 8am to 5pm on Saturday.
Customers can book online on Halfords.com/mot/ or call 01304 829355.
Halfords retail shop in Granville Street remains closed.
