An amputee veteran will run for charity with his bride on their wedding day - with their guests.

Rob Copsey and Becky McGuire, of Dover, will race in bride and groom-themed costumes with 40 guests straight after they get married.

They are going on an obstacle mud run, the Nuclear Races, for Blesma, The Limbless Veterans on May 13.

They will marry at 10am in Brentwood, Essex, in front of 80 family and friends and take off for the race at noon.

Other wounded veterans are taking part in the run of 7km, more than four miles, and are encouraging members of the public to join.

There are a total 500 places to fill.

Mr Copsey, 46, said: ““We got a varied response from the wedding party.

“It was actually Becky’s idea. We’ve been together a long time and love to take part in fun runs and getting muddy. We’ve been to many weddings and thought it would be something different.”

Mr Copsey, a member of the charity, is a former soldier who lost his leg when he stepped on a landmine while serving in Rwanda.

This was in October 1994 in the aftermath of the genocide-ridden civil war there.

Ms McGuire has Type 1 diabetes and said: “It’s not a race to us. Just something fun. We have chosen to do this as we feel it reflects our personalities and continuing life in the face of adversities.”

Blesma, The Limbless Veterans is the national charity for all service men and women who have lost arms or legs plus their widows, widowers and dependents.

It was formed in the years following the First World War and became a national charity in 1932.
