Motorists who inconsiderately parked their vehicles on a narrow road will have to think again next time they visit the White Cliffs of Dover.

Kent County Council has put restrictions in place along Upper Road, near Langdon Cliffs, following complaints by police.

It comes after officers from the Road Traffic Unit tweeted pictures in May showing cars double parked along the road where the National Trust car park was closed.

Their actions forced traffic to overtake on a bend, potentially into the path of oncoming traffic.

A Kent County Council spokesman said: “In response to serious safety concerns raised by various parties including Kent Police, Kent County Council has implement parking restrictions along Upper Road to prevent dangerous and inconsiderate parking.

“These restrictions have been placed following consultation with the local parish councils, Dover District Council, Kent Police, HM Coastguard and The National Trust, all of which were supportive of the proposal.

“The safety of all road users is of paramount importance to us and, in the light of overwhelming evidence to show the levels of dangerous parking here, all parties felt that the placement of parking restrictions at this location was necessary and justified.”
