One of the nation's favourite TV characters is the latest to show his support for a teenager who needs to raise £1million for life-saving cancer treatment in America.

Keith Lemon retweeted a poster created by 16-year-old Kelly Turner from Dover to his 3.61 million followers, yesterday.

On the poster, she has written: "If I cannot have this treatment then I will have no chance in life to be able to do anything. I will die when I'm 18.

"This treatment will cost £1million which my family simply don't have.

"Please donate if you can."

KentOnline's sister paper the Dover Mercury is campaigning to help Kelly and her family, of Elms Vale Road, Dover, raise at least £750,000 for life-saving cancer treatment in America after being diagnosed with the aggressive and rare cancer desmoplastic small round cell tumour.

She was told surgery in Britain to remove the tumour close to her liver was too risky and work needed was not available on the NHS.

Yet without it she has a two-year life expectancy.

One last option is to fly to a specialist cancer centre in New York but the vast sum is needed to cover the cost.

Richard Esdale, producer of the JIGintheBOX events company, was moved by Kelly’s story in last week’s Mercury and has also pledged his support to her.

He will raise money from two cabaret nights and is setting up two concerts for the cause.

Mr Esdale said: “I have decided to help in the little way I know how.

“I would like the whole of Dover to get behind this and our way of producing cabaret nights could hopefully raise a lot of money.

“This is a no-brainer. She is an incredibly brave young girl and she must get this treatment.”

He added: “Thank you for giving Kelly and her family the deserved exposure they desperately need. Had I not seen your story I may not have known about this and being that my company is based in Dover and I live here I feel compelled to help.”

Mr Esdale’s entertainment company had organised two cabaret nights, which are now renamed Cabaret for Kelly.

The first, at Dover Town Hall from 7.30pm on July 22, will have songs from Miss Saigon and Les Miserables.

The second night, with Paul Dunton and guests, is at the Leas Cliff Hall in Folkestone at 7.30pm on September 23.

Mr Esdale has now booked the Roundhouse Theatre, at Dover Discovery Centre, for July 8 and 9 for two Concerts for Kelly.
