The main points so far from the Dover count:
Conservative Jamie Rose beat off tough competition from Deal and Dover Liberal Democrat chairman Aston Mannerings to take the seat for new ward of Alkham and Capel le Ferne. The 29-year-old said he will work hard to free up freight traffic on the B2011 and extend the 40mph zone. He added: “I think it’s important to keep our villages as villages and bring back a sense of community to them.”
Conservatives Trevor Bartlett and Mike Conolly retained their seats in Little Stour and Ashstone. Mr Bartlett, a councillor of 20 years, told the Mercury he had never encountered so many “disgruntled” residents during canvassing. He hopes central government take note of today’s local election results and speed up the Brexit process.
Labour’s Ann Napier lost her seat in the Maxton and Elmsvale ward to Conservative Roger Walkden. There was just over 30 votes between them.
The votes for new ward of Eastry Rural were recounted with just five votes separating Stephen Manion, Conservative, from Green Party candidate Simon Phillips.
