Lorry crashes into roundabout at Whitfield causing traffic delays
10:15, 09 July 2014
All lanes of the A256 Whitfield roundabout are now open after a lorry crashed this morning.
Eyewitness, John Sheridan, said: "A lorry has failed to stop on A2 and gone straight into Whitfield roundabout causing chaos."
It is believed that traffic coming off from the A2 and the A256 is moving "very slowly" according to one motorist.
The front of the lorry is submerged in the trees on the roundabout, while the rear end is on the road.
Police spokesman, Jon Green, said: "The lorry got trapped on the roundabout around 6.55am and is currently undergoing recovery.
"The driver is fine. There are some delays as one lane is blocked."
