Snargate Street near Port of Dover cordoned off after suspicious package ‘hoax’

A man has been arrested after police closed a road following a call about a suspicious package.
Snargate Street near Dover Marina and the port was cordoned off shortly after 11am but has since been reopened.
After a search, officers deemed the report to be a hoax and arrested a man in connection with the incident.
A police spokesman said: “Kent Police was called to Snargate Street, Dover, at 11.08am today following a call regarding a suspicious package.
“A cordon was put in place while the street was searched as a precaution.
“The call was deemed to be a hoax and a 52-year-old man from Dover was arrested in connection with the incident.
“He currently remains in custody.”
