Man killed himself after relationship ended

00:00, 08 November 2001

A BUILDER parked his car on a bridleway and poisoned himself with carbon monoxide fumes, an inquest was told. Gary Goldsmith, 32, of Old Folkestone Road, Aycliffe, near Dover, had been depressed following the break-up of a four-year relationship.

A woman walking her dog discovered his body in his car in Pineham Road, Pineham, Whitfield. Mr Goldsmith's former partner, Pippa Clarke, of Redsull Avenue, Deal, told the hearing at Dover that their relationship had ended in March.

"We saw each other two to three times a week and he was happy with that," she said. She added that about two weeks before his death, she had urged Mr Goldsmith to see a doctor when he told her he was feeling down.

"He said he had some tablets but he did not show them to me," she added. It was revealed that Mr Goldsmith had not mentioned his depression to the doctor.

The coroner Rachel Redman recorded a verdict of suicide.
