There are reports that British-allied war planes have come in to England for an exercise.

Resident Bobbie-Louise Willis photographed a group of planes above Elms Vale at about 2.45pm.

At 3pm Dover Strait Shipping published a picture it identified as two stealth bombers and their escorting F35s.

They turned around over the sea off Folkestone.

Stealth Bombers, formally called Northrop B-2 Spirits, are American heavy strategic bombers, which have been in service since 1997.

They have low observable stealth technology to penetrate dense anti-aircraft defences.

It is not yet known why these aircraft were over Dover.

But warplanes from abroad have come to this country for a special allied exercise.

The RAF yesterday announced that aircraft from the German, Italian and Israeli Air Forces arrive at RAF Waddington in Lincolshire.

They joined aircraft from Britain's RAF and the United States Air Force for Exercise Cobra Warrior.

This is high intensity large force tactical training over the coming weeks.

About 50 aircraft of various types are taking part from next Sunday, September 1 to September 20.

Dover Strait Shipping is a maritime news and photographic organisation for the port and its Strait.
