This enormous statue is a new feature of Dover seafront.

The image of the First World War soldier is part of the Royal British Legion's Thank You 100 campaign to remember those in the conflict.

The piece, called Every One Remembered, is by sculptor Mark Humphreys and was put up earlier this week.

It has the British soldier facing towards France, where so many died on the Western Front.

Every One Remembered forms part of the Dover Remembrance Art Trail.

This also includes a giant poppy artwork in Market Square.

The statue, with a mass of poppies, has turned locals' heads on the seafront and been acknowledged by Dover Town Council.

A photograph of it is also on the authority's website with the message: "There are many reasons to remember our fallen servicemen and women from all conflicts.

" They may have been your relatives, come from your area or shared your name, but the most important reason is to make sure they are not forgotten."

The statue is put up following last November's 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.

The writing on its base, from the RBL, says: "We're leading a national movement to say thank you to all who served, sacrificed and changed our world during the First World War."

We will thank the people of all nations - not just those who fell on the battlefields: those who played their part in the home front and those who returned to build a better future."
