The opening date for Dover's "stunning" new marina has finally been revealed.
Described as a "star feature" of the town's "vibrant" new waterfront, the Outer Marina will open later this year after more than four years of delays.
It will provide mooring births for a variety of leisure vessels, alongside facilities and food and drink available on Clock Tower Square.
First installed as part of a £250 million docks redevelopment, the pontoons remained deserted after fears vessels could be damaged if they use them.
In January of last year, the port authority was forced to apply to build a second wave barrier after it emerged that the pontoons became too unstable when the seas were rough.
Boats were temporarily allowed to dock in the marina in May in what was described as a "trial period", while dredging work was carried out at the nearby Wellington Dock.
Now, after extensive work, an opening date of April 1 has finally been confirmed.
Jason Ransley, head of property at the Port of Dover, said they had worked "tirelessly" to get to this point.
"The team has worked to ensure that the grand opening of the marina provides our berth holders with unrivalled facilities and the opportunity to relax, and the community with a place that breathes local history and charm," he added.
"It’s been exciting to see the waterfront developing over the past few years, and I’m delighted that one of the final and most prominent pieces of the jigsaw will be here for everyone to enjoy soon."
A number of new businesses have already set up shop on the waterside, joining Big Pan Foods, Café on the Curve, Wills Soft Ices and micro-brewery Breakwater Brewery.
Work is set to begin soon on The Electric Motel hotel, café and bar on the Marina Curve, as well as a developing entertainment programme of music and events.
Marina manager Chris Windsor added that the upcoming opening date would be a "very proud day".
"We have worked hard over the years to ensure that the facilities are at their best and any challenges are overcome so that our berth holders can take full advantage of their new home," he said.
"Things have accelerated recently with the opening of the new boatyard, marina office, Marina Curve and berth trials. We can’t wait to see the full site operating very soon."
