Dover District Council brings back parking charges
06:00, 22 May 2020
A district council is re-introducing parking fees in all of its car parks and on-street parking areas from today.
Dover District Council (DDC) is bringing the charges back after coronavirus lockdown measures were relaxed last Wednesday.
Parking had been free in council-owned car parks and on-street pay and display bays since March 27.
The move was made to ensure home workers, key workers and residents could use the bays during lockdown.
However, an announcement on the council's Facebook page this week said: "As more people are now getting out and about in the district, Dover District Council is reinstating parking charges in council-owned car parks and on-street pay and display bays from Friday.
"We will continue to offer free parking to NHS and care workers at present, identified by an official document placed on the dash board."
Other restrictions in the area, including limited waiting bays and double yellow lines have continued to be enforced during the lockdown.
Dover is the second council to re-introduce some of its parking restrictions this week.
On Monday, Folkestone and Hythe District Council announced that it would be bringing back restrictions in its controlled parking zones.
Many other councils have some form of restriction easing in place amid the lockdown.
However Tonbridge and Malling council has announced it will also be reintroducing charges on Friday, May 29.
