Plan for cross-Channel catamaran service
00:00, 30 January 2003
PORT authorities are today (Thursday) discussing an application by a Danish company who want to operate a catamaran service between Dover and Boulogne.
Mols-Linien want to introduce the service at Easter, operating from number one berth at the Eastern Docks.
Other port users have been consulted about the application, and the result of the consultation is due to be reported to members of Dover Harbour Board at their meeting today.
Number one berth is currently sometimes used by Norfolkline and occasionally at night by ships involved in the export of animals. So there is spare capacity at the berth for more ferries, including high-speed catamarans.
There used to be ferry services between Dover and Boulogne, but they were withdrawn some years ago.
