Nigel Farage says he has been advised by police over 'unessential travel' after he visited Kent to witness migrants coming ashore.

The Brexit Party leader posted videos to Twitter that showed him standing in front of the Port of Dover, where 15 people were intercepted by Border Force and brought to land.

His trip comes after another visit paid to Pett Level in East Sussex last week, which he described as "the favoured beach for migrants".

In yesterday's video, viewed 375,000 times, Mr Farage says: "It's Monday morning, I'm here in Dover. And that's because I'm not going to let this story drop.

"Lots of press reports over the weekend suggesting I was quite wrong to have come to East Sussex last week. This is a scandal and it's continuing, so I'm here."

At about 7am yesterday, Border Force intercepted a boat carrying 15 men and one woman. They presented themselves as being Iraqi and Iranian nationals, and were transferred to immigration officials for interview.

Posting to the Twitter, the former parliamentary candidate for Thanet South and Sandwich wrote: "I witnessed first hand our Border Force acting as a taxi service for illegal migrants in Dover this morning. This scandal continues and people have got every right to be angry about it."

He later added: "The illegal migrant scandal is bigger than anybody realises. Our government should stop the boats from coming, not help them to shore."

But today, Mr Farage revealed police allegedly paid a visit to his home after his trip to Dover was reported to them.

He wrote: "Lockdown lunacy. Two police officers just knocked on my door to advise me on essential travel.

"They had received a complaint that I had been to Dover to report on the illegal migrant scandal taking place.

"What a total waste of time and money."

Police have been approached for a comment.

Commenting on yesterday's migrant incident, Minister for Immigration Compliance and the Courts Chris Philp said: “We are all working night and day to dismantle and arrest the criminal gangs who trade in people smuggling.

“Criminals are abusing vulnerable men, women and children by trafficking them across the Channel. This illegal and criminal activity is subject to heavy law enforcement activity by Border Force, the National Crime Agency, Immigration Enforcement and French law enforcement.

“Over 1,100 migrants were arrested in France in the first quarter of this year and in 2019 Immigration Enforcement made 418 arrests, leading to 203 convictions for a total of 437 years.

“Our actions are focussed on going after the criminals perpetrating these crimes and prosecuting them for their criminal activity.”

Border Force officials brought 49 migrants to Dover on Sunday, after three boats crossing the English Channel were intercepted.

Thirty-five were detained on Friday, April 24, and a further 76 tried to make the journey the day before.
