A retirement homes development has opened with the first residents moving in.
Orchard Yard in Wingham is offering a total 15 one to three bedroomed homes for the over-55s.
It has nine houses and six apartments, each with a private garden, terrace or balcony.
Inside they have walk-in showers, level access, wide, well-lit stairs and the provision to later fit a lift if needed.
Residents can also use a clubhouse, with a gym, and guest suite for visiting family and friends.
Richard Williams, executive director of developers Cognatum Property, said: “Moving from the family home to a managed estate is a big decision, and we’re delighted to have over a third of the properties sold and occupied already.”
Joe Murray, architect at the development's designers Kent Design Studio, said: “Residents have the luxury of space unlike most residential developments. We built the development around the communal spaces, and this creates a real sense of community. "
The homes, managed by Cognatum Estates, provide for independent living but also have an emergency alarm service and an hour of domestic support every week for each household.
Prices are from £565,000 for a two bedroom apartment, and properties are sold on a leasehold basis. At the point of subsequent resales a 1% fee will be charged. There is no ground rent.
