Some schools in Dover were forced to close this morning after a busy one-way street was shut due to a huge house fire.
Seven fire engines and a height vehicle were sent to the A256 Barton Road, which has since reopened.
A spokesman for Barton Junior School said: "As we have no access to Barton Junior School, we will remain closed today."
Staff from Shatterlocks Infant and Nursery School also confirmed its closure for the morning, blaming the heavy traffic building up in the area.
It was later confirmed that Shatterlocks will open at 12.30pm - but the school will notbe able to provide lunch to pupils.
Parents of children at Dover Grammar School for Girls were advised to check alternative routes if possible.
Bus provider Stagecoach has also warned of disruption to its services in the town.
The 15, 61, 62, 63, 64 and school routes were all subject to changes. The 93 route was unaffected.
Police confirmed they were called to the scene at 4.30am this morning.
A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: "At the height of the fire, seven fire engines and a height vehicle were in attendance. The incident has been reduced to two fire engines and a height vehicle, and firefighters are damping down any remaining hot spots.
"KFRS’ Volunteer Response Team also attended to provide support and advice to a number of residents who were evacuated as a precaution. The road was closed while firefighting operations were carried out but has now reopened.
"No injuries have been reported. The cause is not yet known."
